Long Beach Poly (Calif.) linebacker Jayon Brown pulled what may be a bit of a stunner and committed to UCLA. The 6-foot-1, 200-pounder also had offers from Colorado and Colorado State but felt the hometown feel of UCLA was too good o pass up.
Brown said he plans to visit Colorado and Colorado State.
"UCLA is great," Brown said. "It's close to home, they offer a great education and they have a great coaching staff. I love the defense they run and how the staff prepares their players."
Assistant coaches Steve Broussard and Jeff Ulbrich led in the recruitment of Brown.
"They are great and I love talking to them," he said. "They definitely know the game and they were real excited when I told them I was going to be a Bruin."
Despite making the commitment, Brown said he will still take other official visits. Colorado and Colorado State have offered and Brown said he will visit those two.
Duke has also started showing interest recently.
"I'm going to take my visits and just be certain of my decision. But I'm pretty sold on UCLA so that will be tough for me to change my mind."
This season Brown has played outside linebacker and safety for Long Beach Poly.
Brown is a three-star recruit, according to 247Sports.
