The UCLA Bruins got a kick start to the week today with a big commitment. Corona (Calif.) Santiago safety Ron Robinson let the UCLA staff know he was committing to the program this afternoon.
Robinson said he likely won't take other visits.
Defensive back recruiting has started a bit slow perhaps, but the Bruins are in great shape with several recruits including Robinson.
The 6-foot-2, 190-pound prep went into his decision to commit to the program.
"The academics and the campus life and the bond with the coaches were all big for me," Robinson said. "I have a great vibe going with coach Demetrice Martin and the other coaches. I just knew UCLA was where I wanted to be."
Often times recruits commit but tend to keep their options open. Robinson said he is firm on his commitment.
"I don't think I'm going to take any other trips," he said. "I'm pretty set with UCLA. I'll take a visit there but that's probably about it."
Coach Martin was plenty pleased on the phone when Robinson informed him of his commitment.
"He was fired up, coach (Jim) Mora was too. I told them I felt good about it and they kept going on and on. It was great, it's been a great day so far."
Among his many qualities, Robinson is rangy and versatile. He also moves his feet pretty well for a safety his size.
