2012 Shaq Thompson

  • Justin Hopkins

Northern California has several top players in this recruiting class and next year. One of the most loaded and top rated high schools, Grant (CA), features several top prospects. One of the stars on the team is 2012, 6-foot-0, 185-pound athlete Shaq Thompson. Thompson was all over the field during his televised opener against Folsom (CA). Many top colleges have already taken notice.

"Most of my teammates, like (Villimi) Moala, (James) Sample, and Puka (Lopa), are all talking about going to play at Cal," said Thompson. "I'm thinking about joining them at Cal, but Puka really likes Oregon. I've been hearing from Cal, USC, UCLA, UNLV, and Tennessee recently. I"m going to try and visit Cal, UCLA, USC, and Miami this year if I can."

While Thompson has drawn early interest, he could play a couple of spots on the field at the next level.

"I'm mostly being recruited for corner or safety. I think I make a better safety but I have pretty good coverage ability. Plus I'm not afraid of contact."

Recently Grant high opened up the season against Folsom with a big win, and Thompson was seen on defense, running back, and slot receiver.
